This is a unique competition which enables amateur and professional riders from all over the country to compete alongside each other within the wonderful setting of Badminton Park by kind permission of His Grace the Duke of Beaufort.
The class is open to horses born on January 1st 2002 and 2003 only (4 and 5 year olds).
The Badminton Young Dressage Horse of the Future competition is now in its 17th year, with qualifying rounds taking place all over the country from Scotland down to Cornwall. There are 18 preliminary rounds with the top three from each qualifier going through to the final. This will also include the top four year old if not already placed in the top three.
The horses are judged for their conformation, then complete a 4 minute test of the riders own composition. It must comprise of walk, trot, canter and some lengthening on both reins with a halt at the tend of the test.
Marks are then added together to produce the winner and at the Championships, the top ten horses come forward to be assessed for star quality.
